A magyar hűtőipar számára a külföldi piacokon való értékesítés nagy jelentőségű. |

The need for external capital (FDI) inflow to finance the current account deficit of developing countries cannot be over-emphasized. Foreign direct investment takes predominance over other types of capital inflow into developing countries. How would an increase in FDI and a reduction in import tariff levels in isolation affect household welfare and other macroeconomic indicators? How would the concurrent application of the two enhance the expected impact? This paper explores the above questions by using a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model for Ghana, implemented in the General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS) to carry out specific counterfactual simulations. This paper concludes that the primary benefit of an increase in FDI inflow for a... |

In view of the impacts on Chinese agro-products export caused by various technical barriers to trade, the academic circles analyzed it from the costs and quantity of exported agro-products. On the basis of the status quo of Chinese agro-products, the gravity model is introduced to analyze the impacts on Chinese agro-product export caused by technical barriers to trade. The results show that as long as the quality of Chinese agro-products can achieve the standard set by developed countries, for one thing, the health of Chinese consumers can be ensured, for another thing, the export of Chinese agro-products will be more smooth, which can provide reference for our government making decisions and solving trade dispute. |

The paper tries to evaluate the optimal entry mode of a Multinational Company that is choosing among export, fragmented production structure with assembly-line FDI in LDC or complete production in LDC with FDI. The results show that if the plant installation cost is sufficiently high then the firm will find it profitable to export the finished product to the LDC market and the Government will not exercise any IPR restriction. If plant installation cost is below a certain critical level the MNC chooses complete LDC production with FDI over assembly-line FDI if the IPR restriction is strong, where the model assumes that a fake producer can copy the product if complete production takes place in LDC. In such a situation government will choose to protect IPR if... |

Noting the difficulties of measuring a company’s export performance and especially financial performance, we develop a new measurement approach grounded on modern portfolio theory. The export intensities and the global financial performance of exporting companies being known, this approach allows deducing the export margin ratio, export risk and correlation of domestic activities with export activities. Using a sampling from French companies in the wine industry from 2001-2005, these implicit financial export performance characteristics are estimated. Main results found: export activities permit a better global margin-risk relationship essentially due to diversification gains because export financial performance seems to be inferior to the domestic one for... |

This article aims to analyze the main distribution channels in the productive chains of tropical flowers in Pernambuco state, focusing on the factors that influence its insertion into the European market. The European Union is the main destination for the tropical flowers exported by Pernambuco, responding for 99, 12 % of the total sales to foreign countries (in value) in 2005. The methodology was based on a qualitative analysis, and took the commodity systems approach as conceptual reference, complemented by the supply chain management approach. Besides secondary data, it was also used primary sources information by means of interviews conduced on the “key-actors” and surveys in the field. Pernambuco flower exporters have used as distribution channels the... |

This paper revisits the empirical evidence about the link between firms’ performance and their international status, based on a large sample of Italian enterprises. To this purpose, we merged two waves of the Capitalia survey (1998-2000, and 2001-2003) retrieving firm level data for roughly 7,000 units. Three results stand out from our empirical exercise. First, firms that engage in the foreign production of final goods, in addition to export activities, are more productive than firms that only export abroad. Second, firms that engage in final goods off-shoring are more productive than firms that engage in inputs off-shoring. Third, in terms of the productivity dynamics over the period 1998-2003, exporters’ performance in Italy was not any better than the... |

For the period between 1957 and 1997, Malaysia’s development is analysed to determine the roles of inputs, planning, trade and government intervention in economic activity. Foreign investment is also analysed. During this period, by international standards, growth that Malaysia experienced was impressive. This growth was achieved through a policy framework that used government planning and investment in conjunction with incentives for the private sector. A unique feature of Malaysia’s planning was its call for social justice to advance the economic interest of its less economically privileged population. By adopting amalgam of development strategies and policies, policymakers were successful in improving the socio-economic status of the majority of the... |
